  • I earned my bachelor's degree at the University of Bari ‘Aldo Moro’ (thesis: "Il prologo in Aristofane: corsi e ricorsi comici"; supervisor: Prof. Olimpia Imperio).
I then earned my master's degree at the University of Pavia (thesis: "Spiegare Aristofane con Aristofane negli scholia vetera alle Rane e al Pluto"; supervisor: Prof. Fausto Montana, co-supervisor: Prof. Bernhard Zimmermann), being student at the Almo Collegio Borromeo. A great part of the master's thesis was written during study periods in Cambridge (Corpus Christi College) and Freiburg im Breisgau (Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg), respectively funded by the Almo Collegio Borromeo and the University of Pavia.
I now am a PhD candidate at the University Roma Tre (research project: "Spiegare Aristofane con Aristofane. Indagine negli scholia vetera alle commedie"; supervisor: Prof. Paolo d'Alessandro, co-supervisor: Prof. Fausto Montana).

  • My research aims to study the quotations from Aristophanes that are found within the scholia vetera in Aristophanem in order to verify whether and how the Aristarchean principle of Homeron ex Homerou saphenizein applies to ancient exegesis on Aristophanes. The Aristarchean method, which involves clarifying an author by elucidating and keeping in consideration the intrinsic characteristics of his works, is particularly well-documented within the corpus of the scholia vetera to the Iliad. However, despite the notoriety of this ancient ‘principle’, there is currently a lack of studies about its actual attestation in ancient exegesis on authors other than Homer, although the number of studies aimed at analyzing the use and purposes of quotations in various scholiastic corpora has recently increased. Specifically, quotations from Homer seem to be the most numerous in the scholiastic corpora, except within the scholia vetera in Aristophanem, in which they are less than those from Aristophanes. This finding – along with the overall quality of the scholiastic corpus and the numerous traces of Alexandrian exegesis in it – makes the vetera in Aristophanem an interesting subject matter for this research.

  • My main fields of research are ancient Greek scholarship and ancient Greek comedy.
